Viva Las Vegas!
We are here, laptops in tow
The fans have arrived

Yes, here I am in the Clarion Hotel on Flamingo, enjoying the free in-room wireless Internet. It’s good the hotel has wireless, because all three of us brought our laptops! So we can surf simultaneously.

Bittermint and lycanthrophile arrived in Tehachapi safely yesterday afternoon around 3 pm. I had fresh lemonade waiting, and we enjoyed a cool drink and talked about Transformers (well, lycanthrophile and I talked about Transformers, while bittermint and my mom sat about bemused) for a while, then hit the road. I’d gone into town earlier to go to the post office and do a bit of shopping, which resulted in a new camera. Oops. I bought a Fuji Finepix A610 at Kmart. It was their last one so I got the display model for 10% off, plus picked up a 1G SD card on sale for $14.99. Not a bad deal. I took a couple of test shots of my Mom and Spot, and they turned out pretty good. I wanted a smaller camera to take with me on the marathon, and I think this one will do nicely.

We arrived at our hotel around 8 pm, as expected, settled into our room—we got a rollaway bed for me, which is nice, but it was a very tight squeeze finding room for it and required some furniture moving—then went out to dinner. The restaurant in the hotel here closes at 9 pm! so we went next door to the Tuscany Suites (which is the hotel I stayed in last time I was in Las Vegas) and ate at the Cantina there. I had fish tacos, which were very good. One never knows with fish tacos, because each restaurant does them differently. But the Tuscany gets thumbs up from me! Their lemonade was very strange, though. I should know better than to order lemonade in restaurants. It’s never made with real lemons, and I don’t like it.

Then it was back to our hotel to do a bit of websurfing and go to bed. We saw a few fans about in the hotel last night—some of them were planning an evening viewing of the new Harry Potter movie, but we were too tired to go. This morning the con officially begins. I expect we’ll head out after a while and get registered and start conning!

Here’s a picture of Spot, taken with my new camera.
