He went to his friend/Transformed into his truck form/And parked beside him

Today’s subject: a scene from my nascent Transformers story, in haiku form. And I’ve decided to go back to using virgules to separate the lines of my haiku, instead of adding line breaks. The three-line subjects look nice on the main page of my blog, but they get rendered in strange ways on RSS feeds and other layouts.

I woke up this morning at 6:30 am, with Spot stretched out at my side, looked at the clock and thought, If I do the 10K run tomorrow, I’ll have to be up and on the road by this time. And promptly decided not to do it. Which I can do, because I didn’t have the chance to drop off the registration form yesterday. I’d gone into town around noon, and found the TVPRD office at 12:30, only to find that they closed for lunch between 12 and 1 pm. So I went ahead to the Pet Lodge and bought some ear mite medicine for Spot (which I haven’t used yet, because he gets so upset when I put medicine on/in him, and I wanted to give him a day or two of respite and snuggles before getting him all sad again), then headed back. But it was still ten minutes to 1 pm, and no guarantee that they’d be back at the office right on time, so I decided to stop for lunch at Que Pasa instead, and drop off the form later.

So I’m not registered for the run, and can just forget it. Which means I’m back to doing the 14-miler Sunday, but I think that will work out. We’re planning to go to the rodeo Sunday afternoon, but it doesn’t start until 4 pm, so, if I get started with my run by 8 am, I should be done around noon, and have plenty of time to get to the rodeo. I think I’ll call Mom in a while and see if she wants to go to the Gem and Mineral Show this afternoon, and maybe take a spin through the arts & crafts thing in the park, although that’s always the same old stuff and kind of boring.

I think I’m finally coming out of my rotten mood of the last couple of days. Mexican food for lunch made me feel good. And so did having Skittles for dinner! (Okay, they weren’t actually dinner, I had a cabbage-carrot-nut salad for dinner, with Skittles afterwards for dessert.) And I had a nice long sleep last night, with my kitty snuggled up beside me. Now my semi-weekend begins! I suppose there are things I should be doing today besides the Mountain Festival, but I think I’m just going to take it easy and enjoy the festivities. And do my 14-mile run.

I’m still thinking about what route I’ll run. I don’t think I’ll be able to run at the middle school, so I’m considering running to Meadowbrook Park. From Highline and Dennison, it would be five miles to the park, then I could do four miles around the path there, and then back to the mailboxes. There are bathrooms at the park, but I don’t remember any water faucets… I might just carry an extra water bottle with me. Or maybe Mom would like to meet me at the park and bring some water along. It’s supposed to be somewhat cooler Sunday, 86 F, so I hope it won’t get too hot.

Here’s another pic from last year’s Kern County Fair, couple of sleepy pigs.
