Writing haiku for subject lines is kind of fun. Wonder how long I’ll be able to keep it up? I haven’t written any fiction to speak of in so long—but seventeen syllables a day may be possible!

Yesterday was a good day. I finished everything on my To Do list except for cleaning the back room, which I knew I wouldn’t get to, so why did I even put it on my list? One more room, now, and the entire house will have been cleaned. Sheesh, how long is it since I began this round of cleaning? Checking my date book, it looks like it was the beginning of April when I cleaned the kitties’ room, so two months? And I’m not quite finished yet. Next week, if all goes well, the cycle will be complete. And then I can start all over again. The kitties’ room could use a thorough vacuuming again. At least the blankets and throws have all been washed (as of yesterday—Mom took the blue blanket and mattress cover to the laundromat. They’re still out on the line, I should bring them in this morning and put them back on the kitties’ bed).

No To Do list for today: all I’m going to do is go to work. I got up early again—around 6:30–7:00—so there’s plenty of time to futz around before work. I’ll bring in the laundry and then probably work on my fiction website for a while before getting ready for work.

Oh, yeah, my fiction site. Insane as I am, after fiddling around with this blog and deciding that I really like the way it works, I started thinking, hmm, WordPress might work really well for my fiction site. I could enter the stories as posts, tag them with searchable categories instead of having to maintain static fandom pages (and get rid of the dreaded “Other” page for the orphan stories), have an easily customizable layout, even enable commenting on stories!

So, after experimenting a bit with this blog to make sure it would work, I went ahead and moved my old fic site to a new folder, ff2006, so I could do a new WordPress installation into the ff folder and start rebuilding my fiction site from scratch.

I think I’ve got it working pretty well. I set up a Home page (which currently links to the old site, so it will still be available while I futz with the getting the new one up and running), figured out how to mark the Adult stories and cut the body of the story so that only the title and headers will show up in category listings, and posted the first four stories. (Starting from the beginning in more or less chronological order, so the newest stories will end up on top, just as if I’d been doing this from the start.)

Reformatting and re-posting all the stories, of course, will be the most time-consuming part, but as long as the old site is still up and available, I can take as long as I want, doing a few stories a day. I still haven’t figured out how to handle the novel-length stories, whether I’ll just post them in parts, or figure out a way to link parts to a main page. I don’t even know if there’s a size limit to posts in WordPress. But I guess I’ll find out soon! I think The Best Lies is next in line to be uploaded.

I imagine I’ll post a note in my lj and ask people to click around the new fic site and point out any potential problems. If all else fails, all I have to do is put the old site back. But I think this is going to work pretty well. Go me!
