my cat is too dumb
to push open the cat door
so she stays inside

Woke up this morning feeling refreshed and ready for the day! And thus, have spent the first few hours of the day plonking about online. Oh well. My ear is still plugged up (what else is new?), but my sinuses are improving, so any day now I expect my ear to unplug.

My five-mile run went well yesterday. Still on track for Honolulu! I also cleaned the fish tank and pumped water yesterday. This week and last week both, I forgot to pump water on Friday, my usual water-pumping day, and so pumped Sunday instead. The tank still hasn’t quite gotten full following several weeks of not pumping when the generator was down, so I will pump a second time tonight. I should also climb up the hill and see what the water level’s like. I did a load of laundry yesterday as well as cleaning the fish tank, so I used a lot of water. But I’ve been pumping twice a week since I got the generator back, and should be catching up to a full tank soon.

I also posted the first part of Alex Through the Looking Glass yesterday. I’ve decided to post one part per day until all ten are up. I could do more than one, but I have to go through it carefully to add back all the italics (I have a text copy of the file that’s been more or less properly formatted, but the italics were stripped when it converted to text, and the only way to get them back in is to look at the original and find them, then find the same text in the post and italicize it. Takes concentration and if I try to do too much at once, I’ll get careless. I’m also finding misspellings in the original. (Eek! Didn’t I run a spell-check on it? I’m only now finding that “imposter” should be “impostor.”)

I also had to edit the main post about a million times. I kept forgetting things or deciding to add things. I included the intro I wrote for the zine, and a jpg of the cover. The rest of the posts should be easier—just the parts themselves, and then edit the links from the main post and the previous part. I expect I’ll go do Day Two when I’m done here.

Poor Miss Socks hasn’t gone outside for the last couple of days. I had to stop propping the cat door open, because there were too many bugs and critters and things coming in the open window, and it doesn’t occur to her to push on the flap to open it. Sigh. I had hoped that once she got used to going in and out that way, she might investigate the flap and learn to push it open, but so far, not. So today I propped it just an inch or so open with a matchstick, hoping she’ll figure it out. I am tempted to pick her up and push her through it, but she hates being messed with, and would probably be so upset that she doesn’t pay any attention to how she’s getting out there. I may resort to that eventually if I can’t teach her to open the door any other way.

So, I have a whole free day today! What shall I do with it? I should try to catch up on a little of the housework and projects I haven’t been doing for the last few weeks, what with the cousins’ visit and being sick and all, but I am feeling more inclined to just relax and enjoy the day. Probably will call Mom in a bit and see if she wants to have lunch in town somewhere. I need to go to the grocery store, at least. Perhaps I’ll get my shovel and try to plant the mole chaser I bought weeks ago but haven’t yet put in the ground. And/or just do some general tidying.

On my way down to the shed last night, I spotted these few green plants that were covered with shiny green beetles! I ran back to get my camera and took a bunch of photos, and here is one.
